First Triathlon Results!

Hey ladies!! So Sunday was my first triathlon and I had a blast. I am hooked and already planning my next one. I must say though, I have a whole new respect for the race. Just because one can swim, bike, and/or run, does not mean you should do them all together :) Loved it, loved it. I was 68th out of 412 women and 10th in my age group and my total time was 1:00:03 (250 yard swim, 8.6 mile bike, and a 2 mile run). It was really novice friendly which made the experience more enjoyable. If you ever get the chance to do one I would recommend it. Here are a couple pics - one finishing the run and one getting out of the pool. I am also running a 1/2 marathon on the 4th of November - first one. It's a year for firsts.

Other than that, life is good. Nathan got a new job a few months ago at Tyco Healthcare and is finally getting paid what he should be for that type of job. I am still at SECU, but I am now at the Operation Center in Account Systems. I test the programs and systems that the programmers write. Our dog Luna is well too - that dog can get the lead out of my butt on a run, let me tell you. Loring, your dog has speed, mine has freakin' endurance like you wouldn't believe!! 4 miles for a dog is pretty far. I'm running a 1/2 marathon on the 4th of November

Micki!!! CONGRATS on the engagement!!! I am so happy for you both. Vegas, eh? Hope your hip gets better soon.

Hope you all are well!! Take care.

Update

Hey Ladies,

Wookie!! Congrats on your crazy half marathon. It sounds tough, with wind, in dirt, at altitude. You should really consider coming here and running one... you could probably run like 6 minutes faster...hehe. Chicago has a half marathon in September, but on campus there's the Holy Half in April or the Sunburst in June.

Also, the Mr. and I are engaged! We don't have any plans... but how would you all feel about a Vegas wedding?

Running isn't going well at all right now... really sucks actually. My hip has pretty much grounded me for about 2 and a half months now, and while I'm going to try to run with it now, I'm not sure if this new painful spot will appreciate it. I had a bone scan with nothing showing up... the doctor says that she'll consider an MRI after 4 weeks of PT...my insurance right now only thinks I medically need 1.5 weeks of PT. It's really frustrating, actually.

Anyway, I'm happy to hear you gals are training injury free and that it's rewarding. So for now, keep me up to date so that I can live life though you!

Half marathon...

Hi girls,

I suppose it's about time I give an update. Today, I ran a half-marthon in Boulder and it went pretty well. I ended up running 1:26:16 which is a new PR and placed 3rd. It was pretty windy and was on the dirt roads in Boulder, which made it kinda difficult.
Other recent news is Casey and I adopted a greyhound (ex-racer) a couple of weeks ago. His name is Archie and is pictured to the right. I have only taken him running a couple of times though because he tends to get tired after about 8 min, however, he can run about 45 mph for short distances.
Work is going well and Im getting to spend some time out in the field running aquifer tests, and observing well drilling and construction. It can be a little bit tiresome to spend 40+ hours / wk in the office so it is always nice to have that split up between field and office work. I hope everyone is doing well and is injury-free.

Long time no blog

So girls I am going to be running my first marathon next year. My triathlon is quickly approaching, then I have a 1/2 marathon scheduled, then the marathon training begins.

Nathan and I are getting married in 8 months!!! WOO-HOO!!! And I also have a new job with the State Employees' Credit Union as an Account Systems Specialist. We help the programmers test and implement new system upgrade and such. Interesting so far.

Hope you all are well!!!
Wompus :)

Visits

Hey!

CO Springs is only about an hour and a half from me so we will have to get together when you get into town.... Keep me posted on the dates. Here is a picture from the Garden of the Gods in the Springs so you have something to look foward to.
Casey and I just got back from NC yesterday and had a wonderful visit. We got to go out to Ocracoke island in the outerbanks and visit Asheville. I went on a run with Danielle in bent creek which made me miss the shadiness of the trees and all the good times we had running there. This was the first vacation since the beginning of grad school that I didn't bring work on and makes me hesitant to begin a 40 hr/wk job. Anyway, running is going well and hopefully will be racing soon...

Summer Update

Hey Ladies,

Yup, so the runners knee is passing I think. I've been consistently running for two weeks now, and while I feel that I suck, I just keep reminding myself that Culpepper didn't run for like 9 months to have her second baby and she managed a 4:05 1500 this year. Haha, yup, just like Shayne.

Anyway, it's hot. And seeing hows there's no spring here, the adjustment is seriously a rude awakening... one day it's 38 the next it's 80...then 90. I think yesterday was the first day my body actually remembered how to sweat - haha, which reminds me. You know how you get all salty if you don't sweat too well. Well, I always get all salty, and the last time I did I asked Kyle (half jokingly) to lick my shoulder. He did! Haha, yup, he's not a horse and I guess doesn't like salt licks.

Alright I'm just trying to procrastinate a problem I'll seriously have to think about, but am afraid of. So, love you ladies... and hopefully we'll see each other at least once this summer. Hey Wookie, I've got a wedding in Colorado Springs this August... is that close?
Let me know, I don't think I can make the trip next weekend home, (that's what I get for owning two places), but if I could I would.... maybe import a smart car fortwo or something.... hmm, or get to work on that perpetual motion machine. Things to do things to do.

Yay Life

Hey Girls! I'm not sure who's checking this anymore. But, here's my update: During a cold (read 12 degrees) slushy, windy, and snowy run (yes, slushy and snowy), I managed to somehow hurt my knee... two weeks later I went to the doctor who gave me his verdict: Runners knee...six weeks of no running to repair it. Well, I didn't listen... until the beginning of ohhh, April, when I finally said, FINE, I'll take off. So there's that. I haven't run in three weeks (or really worked out substantially). I do manage to swim almost every other day (and have now done a 2k in the pool! Whoo hoo!), but am otherwise now feeling out of shape.

Well, life is keeping me busy though. I fixed up my condo and it is now for sale ... and I'm buying a historically designated house 2miles from campus! It's large and purple...so ya'll have to come! I've got a conference paper due in two weeks (but the conference is in Rome, so there's a nice motivating factor), and hopefully I'll start my candidacy stuff this summer. By the way, CONGRATS WOOKIE on your masters! I'm jealous... very very jealous. So how does water creep through limestone? Hehe.

Well, you know what they say. Upward and onward!
