Racing Just for Fun
So, to share my latest paying to run adventure: Last Sat. morning I was able to talk two friends of mine into driving up to Dowagiac, MI to run a 5k called Steve's Run. I wanted more of a workout ... so I signed up for the 10k. Let me stress that I really just wanted a 'hard' run, a t-shirt, and a some popsicles. Luckily, Molly Huddle (um, All-Amer. 5ker) was there to also just get in a tempo run, so I had no stress about having to win.
So, point is - it was hot!!! I've been advoiding the heat all summer by running mostly at 6am or like 9 pm - seriously. So, after the first mile I realized that 93 degree weather in the sun wasn't something I had acclimated to. Not to mention it was hilly ... not by a'ville standards of course, but more or less by s. bend standards. So, yup, I died, died died died.
The plus side is that I'm getting some boys around here interested in roadrunning - which is definitely a bonus, cause then they can encourage (nicely or not) me to do my workouts, day after day. They also try to encourage behaviors antithetical to training ... ie. steak n shake, or keg stands, but they mean well, mostly let me off the hook, and more importantly keep me sane.

yes, it does suck to run in the heat. That's awesome you found some guys to run with. I need to find a new running partner. My friend jeff who i usually run with has been kinda lazy about running so now he is afraid to run with me again because he thinks im too fast for him. oh well... im thinking about running a 10 mile race this saturday but i dont really want to pay to race... I feel like im already paying by suffering through the race, isn't that enough??
